The teaching of Adam Smith's philosophical project in the historiography of economic thought
Main Article Content
Given the relevance of the history of economic thought to the training of economists in the history of their science, we propose to show how textbooks on the history of economic thought have taught (and investigated) the work of Adam Smith and, in particular, what impact has the "disciplinarization" of the history of economic thought in the re-reading of an aspect of his work that today is not usually common to conventional economic science research : The linkage of the Smithian Political Economy with the general field of philosophical knowledge in which this author worked. We will show how this topic has lost weight in the historiography of economic thought (especially in textbooks), which have given greater importance to other aspects of Adam Smith's work (mainly economic, that is to say, related to The Wealth of Nations) closer to the uses and customs of 20th century economic science. We believe that highlighting the relevance of the study of this problem can contribute not only to a better understanding of the work of Adam Smith but also to a more complete teaching of this.
