This article discusses the problem of the recognition of collective identitiesin the context of a democratic state of law based on the interpretation suggested by Jürgen Habermas. The article presents, firstly, the problem ofrecognition of the demands of collective identities, and secondly, some theoreticalassumptions prior to the debate with Taylor on the struggle for recognitionin modern societies, and thirdly, some of elements that structure thetheoretical interpretation of Jürgen Habermas surrounding the recognitionof the unmet demands of collective identities. It is concluded that the recognitionof collective identities can be articulated morally and politically if thedemocratic rule of law are created equal rights and participation. Conditionscritical to that in the field of public social actors perform the exercise of civicautonomy, which must be oriented to clearly visualize the collective interestsand criteria justified to deal just the different interests and needs ofcollective identities.
