The purpose of this article is to show that two of the paradigms of evil mostknown in the history of morals are not exclusive. Taking account of thejudgment made by Bartolomé de Las Casas about the requirement, the firstpart of the article emphasizes in the possibility of explaining the origin ofevil through the platonic paradigm of ignorance. In the second part, andconsidering Las Casas description of the way the conquerors applied therequirement, a second source of evil is described, that is, the one whichaccording to Aristotle, takes place in an agent’s incontinent disposition.
