This article is part of a dual philosophical program: the historical study of the intellectual relationship between a poet and a philosopher (who was also a poet), and the analysis of the philosophical consequences of their shared approach to thought in poetry. Aureliano Robles, the undisputed exegete of the Unamuno corpus, shows how both Unamuno and Machado extended the biblical perspective on civilization through critical contributions closely linked to the teaching they both received in Paris from philosophers such as Bergson, and from several linguists, art historians, and cultural historians.
