Desire and Love According to Descartes

In this paper, I discuss the notion of passion in Cartesian philosophy and its close and inescapable relationship with the body. I consider that Descartes, in his treatment of the passions, emphasizes our body's role in establishing relationships with things in the world and with other individuals. In this sense, passions serve to indicate to the individual the convenience or not of the external world with the intention of preserving its existence, information that cannot be obtained by rational capacity alone. On the other hand, passions offer us certain ways of relating to other individuals, which can occur through love and desire.
