Dialectics and capitalism in Marx’s thinking are inextricably linked. The specificity of Marxist dialectic would be that the praxis constitutes both its material and theoretical foundation, through the display of a practical problem: capitalism. Therefore, dialectics would not be a method to be applied but something to be discovered in capital’s temporalities and resistances. The aim of this article is to illustrate how the determinants of capitalism that Marx formulates –for example, the relation value/labor– presuppose dialectic’s categories –totality, contradiction, negativity, objectivity– in the own development of capital’s logic, in order to demonstrate how social becoming, far from answering to the logic of a necessary unfolding, would rely, in fact, upon an enigmatic contingency.
